My ISP has REALLY gone and done it now!
They're bouncing us around between two proxies... with not just the last quadrant of the IP changed, like AOL does to their users.
No, they've got the last quadrants the same. It's the OTHER THREE quadrants that differ!!!
The result? When I now log in to a forum, the moment I log in, the next page gets sent via the other proxy, and the IP naturally doesn't now match the SID created with the login.
So, effectively, I'm immediately logged back out again. Sometimes I've got a few seconds (depending how the timing goes...), but most likely I'm just logged straight out again.
So this message I'm doing using remote control on a server of ours, and it's naturally a pain - using two scrollbars, etc etc.
Sent them a complaint, but no reply... so it looks like time to find another ISP!

(hence not seeing me around the past few days...

)

Sorry to hear that, and it's just a huge hassle, isn't it? I hate it when something like that happens; it just drives me crazy. One of worst parts of this is that they keep charging you while they provide no value to you.

It's really the biggest pain! I'm on a 56k dialup, but only get out about 46k if I'm lucky. Now can you imagine how long it now takes me to make a post using this remote control?
I'm definitely gonna go with a new ISP! I really don't know where they got this idea from, but it's really annoying!
Anyhow. What can I do other than to look around. No use getting in a fluster about it.

But now I know that you are very capable. It's not that I didn't know you were capable, but you know, you demonstrated that you can manage to get through great technical difficulties somehow

I forgot - it's actually using 3 scrollbars!
To reload after replying, I've got to scroll my right scrollbar halfway down, and then my bottom one to the right (the remote screen comes out somewhat larger than mine somehow...), then grab the right scrollbar that's 8000 miles away, and drag it right up. Then I can drag my bottom bar back to the left & click.
Now to reply, it involves moving BLS (bottom local scrollbar) to right, RLS (right local scrollbar) to middle, RRS (right remote scrollbar) down, hit reply & post. To submit post, BLS to right, RRS down a bit, if too far, then RLS down again, and hit submit.
I think it would be far easier flying a helicopter than this!!! lmao!
After a day of this I'd be rightfully balmy!!!

I'm having hard time following this, but I suppose that you're making some progress.

I thought I'd give it a go again from my pc, and see what happens.
So far so good! I'm still logged in! Perhaps they've changed things back to how they were? I suppose I shouldn't speak so soon - let's wait and see just how long before it changes again!

Well, so far soo good!
Could it be that my cry did not fall on deaf ears? Oh I hope things stay this way! It's really disappointing to post only to find your IP has changed completely, and you've been logged out for it!
But so far so good - last week I would've been logged out right after logging in!!!

ISP's are getting funny these days. I like how some say unlimited internet access, but they actually mean unlimited times you can dial in, not time spent on the net.

Some also bounce you between load-balanced proxies. If their IP's vary in the first 3 quadrants, then PHPBB will regard you logged out. The 4th quadrant checking was omited for AOL users.
