I think we should have a dedicated thread for REIKI; I make a copy of the definition(provided by Thais) from
this thread as follows.
What is Reiki?
Many people have heard the term reiki (pronounced ray-key) but do not know what it implies. It is a system of natural healing involving the ‘laying on of hands’ & is many thousands of years old. It was known by Tibetan Buddhist monks and rediscovered in the 1800s by a Japanese doctor, Mikao Usui. The Usui System of Reiki is a very simple but powerful healing technique that can be easily given & received by anyone.
The actual Japanese words are rei and ki –
Rei = spiritual wisdom
Ki = the life force
Therefore, reiki can be defined as the spiritually guided Universal Life Force. The reiki healing energy moves through the healer and dispels blocks & negativity before being channeled through to the recipient.
All healers use the Life Force, but not all use reiki which works on a special vibration. It will need a Reiki Master to attune an individual to the energy. The reiki practitioner is a channel for the energy to be given and NOT the source of the healing. It is widely accepted that reiki not only complements other therapies, but actually increases their strength. The practitioner, while using the reiki energy to heal, also absorbs the same energy – therefore the more healing is given, the more it is received; also, reiki can never cause harm and has a beneficial effect on most causes of dis-ease, which tend to be disharmonies in the energy flow within the body.
When should reiki be given?
It can be given at any time, regardless of whether there is dis-ease in the body or not – reiki will facilitate the healing of an illness but can energize & invigorate a person’s mind, body and spirit at all times to prevent disharmony and imbalance, and the resulting onset of dis-ease.
It can be used to complement other therapies, or given as a separate treatment lasting about an hour.

Reiki seems very popular. I just looked for news related to Reiki and I found a bunch. Also those who provide therapy are apparently very interested in Reiki. There are a bunch of Reiki classes held and here is
one of them.

Yep.
Is that near where you live? Go for it, iRule - you may be surprised! There's nothing like having personal experience of something you talk about!
(In fact, it's the ONLY way to talk authoritatively about something!!

)

There seems to be a big upsurge of interest in reiki at the moment. At open days & fairs that I've been to recently, people are always asking if I do reiki, and I've had calls from a lot of peeps too wanting treatments (including men, interestingly), whereas it used to be more for reflexology.

Good news.

It's all good, but one thing I keep wondering is how one can prove the effect of something like REIKI. You can see the result, but is there any way to prove that the result is from REIKI? If it cannot be proven, then how would you promote it?

Well...the bottom line is....you can't prove it. The reiki energy works in mysterious ways, as does all energy healing. It goes to the place that needs healing, which may not necessarily be the place that
you think needs it!
I don't think it needs promoting - so many people give it & so many ask for it! Have you tried having an attunement yet, iRule?

Maybe you should try having a reiki treatment to see how it 'feels'.

A few years ago, if you told someone you believed in auras you were crazy, today there are cameras that can take pictures of auras. Science is just starting to catch up.
