Sorry, I haven't updated this for ages... I kept training a little longer but was kind of knocked sideways because I felt a little run down (forgive the pun). Then, when I got running again, I had ankle trouble after a long run. It was just like the ankle pain I got on my last two marathons, and I have reluctantly made the decision not to take part in the Toronto Marathon afterall. I shall still be doing a half marathon later this month, but I haven't done so much training for that now...

The half marathon was last Sunday. For those in the UK, you will probably have heard of it... it was the Great North Run. I didn't manage to train any more for it, due to a variety of reasons... and this, coupled with the conditions (hot for the time of year), made it very difficult for me. At around 9 miles, I got cramp in both legs and struggled/hobbled to the finish. It was the 7th time I've entered (and completed) the run, but the slowest time by far.
It was also a very sad day, since
4 people died in the event.

It'll make me think twice about not preparing properly in future...

Do runners in the UK generally know enough about hydration? Both overhydration and dehydration are quite a problem. Hard to imagine somebody dying from running! Perhaps they had some underlying problem?

Many of these people had taken part in previous Great North Runs... I'm not really sure about all the details, though.
Anyway, as for my exercise blog...

it's been non-existent of late. I've been busy with family lately.
I've got back into playing football once a week, and will be doing the Great North Run again later this year, but I'm not finding much time to train right now.

OK... time I got exercising again, as I've entered for this year's Great North Run.
This year I'm running for charity once again... the British Heart Foundation.
Right now, I'm playing football once a week, and starting to run two other times. That's about all I feel capable of right now, but I'll have "up" it as the run gets closer.

I'm disappointed. You are lazy. This is why you weren't included in this World Cup squad!!!

Yeah, I've been lazy lately...
Now it's time I got back into shape. I am running the Great North Run again on 1st October.
At the moment, I play football every Wednesday and go running (only about 2.5 miles) on Mondays and Fridays. That's all.
I need to increase the frequency and distance over the next couple of months, in order to run 13 miles...
Maybe in 4 years time I can make that WC squad.

Well... I've done the half marathon again!
Again, I hadn't really trained for it, bar two 8-mile runs which really isn't enough.
That said, I completed the 13.1 miles in 2h 00m 07s which I was pretty happy with given my lack of preparation. It would have been nice to have been *under* 2 hours, though.
