Years ago, I knew an American lady who had lived in India for 10 years and every morning she used to scrape her tongue to get the 'fur' off it, a habit acquired while living there (an Ayurvedic practice, I believe.)

Apparently its gets rid of bacteria from the crevices of the tongue & is a great help to people who tend to get frequent sore throats.

Have you ever tried this?

Never done it.

Isn't tooth paste good enough?

Do you clean your tongue with toothpaste? I've never tried it but don't fancy it! The taste buds would go wild!

Well, I don't actually clean my tongue using tooth paste Smile , but when I brush my teeth, tongue is soaked into tooth paste. Isn't it good enough?

Come to think of it, I press my teeth on my tongue occasionally(to clean my tongue). Is this just me?

That would help, iRule, but be sire to clean ot off your teeth after doing it!

Any plastic scrapy thing would do, I imagine.

A good tip for oral health is to add a couple of drops of good tea tree essence to a small glass of water, then after teeth cleaning, use this to gargle & wash your mouth out. Don't swallow it.

Tea tree oil is anti-bacterial & anti-fungal.

Very Happy

There are many products to wash your mouse, right? Some kind of liquid? What's wrong with those? If you say tea tree oil works better, why is that?

I don't know about washing my mouse Razz but water & tea tree oil is just an easy, organic & cheap alternative to brand products that are full of chemicals, for oral hygiene!

Glad I found this topic. It is indeed a practice far common in India and I dont know why it is not widely practiced here in the US. I guess, listerine sells for far more then the tongue cleaner would sell for or it keeps you going back to the dentist Smile

Personally, I clean my tongue every day and when I dont, I dont feel fresh. It is just a matter of personal preference but I think that tongue cleaning does get rid of bacteria and dead cells.

For anyone who is interested, you can find tongue cleaner in your health food store. If you get a tongue cleaner made of copper, use that instead of plastic or steel.

Doesn't it hurt your tongue (accidentally)?

That's a great question and I dont know the scientific answer but I am speculating that it has to do with the metalic properties of copper. My copper tongue scrapper looks so much nicer then the two steal ones I have and I am happy with it. Smile
