We often hear that we shouldn't take so much fat or oil. Is it really the case? I'd like us to look into various fat and oil in this forum. I start this thread to discuss Lard. What do you think about Lard? Is it good for your health? How much should you take? Should you take any Lard at all?

This is what's often used in take-out Chinese restaurants, right?

I never buy lard but, if it's used in takeouts, then I guess it's something I do have. Is it really used in Chinese cooking?

I'm not so sure if lard is used in cooking traditionally, but from what I understand, it's pretty cheap to get lard, so it's often used in cheap restaurants like take out Chinese and take out fast food restaurants. This is presumably one of many reasons why you want to avoid eating so much fast food, though fried food is not necessarily unhealthy.

I think lard also used to be used a lot in the olden days. I'm not sure we're more health conscious now, but we're certainly more scientifically aware that lard isn't good for us.

Also my wild guess is that there is so much food in developed countries that people living in those countries have tendency to take more than they need. Probably that creates health problems.
