Why can't you even fart nowadays without it being "subject to terms and conditions", and trails and trails of fine-print all over the bloody place?
Whatever happened to "A man's word is his honour" and "the gentleman's handshake"?

Another thing about our finance is that so many people (in US) have tremendous amount of debt. I mentioned in
the finance forum that average person has 9.4k credit card debt. That's just credit card debt. Once your debt reaches a certain level, you basically lose ability to think and act rationally.

I'll agree with that! Fight-or-flight, eh?
No wonder we're so stressed out as a human-race!

Few people like high stress situations. It's unhealthy for prolonged periods of time. It wears down the body's defenses.

I just don't understand why people let those kinds of debts rack up. If you don't have the money, you shouldn't spend it. I know lodas of people on meagre wages who always feel the need to have the latest phone, the latest car, etc. That's fine if they've got the cash, but it's all their problem if they haven't and yet they go ahead and buy regardless.

I believe institutions such as banks and credit card companies have also problems, but that's another issue.
Regardless, debt can be a tremendous stress to you, and it's so unhealthy. Surely, it will create number of financial problems, but it will create number of health problems also. Not many people talk about it, but having financial stability is one of keys to stay healthy.

That's probably true although I suspect wealth can also be detrimental to health. Wealthy people can have a tendancy to be greedy and overeat.

Hmmm ... this, I'm not so sure. As far as I see faces of corporate America and riches of America, they are definitely much more slender than average Americans. In fact, most wealthy Americans seem to be in better-than-average shape.

But what about comparing Americans with, say, Africans?

From what I understand, many older cultures perceive those who carry weight rich and powerful because they experienced lack of food in various times in history, and only rich and powerful could obtain so much food to actually gain weight. Modern cultures do not have this perception, and America is no exception.
Rich and powerful always live longer than poor and weak, and America is no exception. However, my wild guess is that rich and powerful in America live longer not only because they have wealth and power to access highest quality of healthcare but also because they are generally lighter(?) than average Americans, i.e., they are not fat.

Probably so, but then again, the hardest workers are your labourers who are slim & fit. Hence being labelled "the little man", whereas the wealthy do have more access to more food, and have also been commonly labelled "the fat cats" or "big bosses".

This group, despite access to better healthcare, has the highest incidences of heart failure. I suppose wielding a shovel makes more sense healthwise than sitting in board meetings all day!

Is this statistically proven?

Fear of litigation

Which infers potential loss of money.

Ever seen an obese labourer?
It is quite accepted that obesity increases the risk of heart failure, so this part you should be okay with... but just think about it: a labourer that works physically 8 hours a day, 5 days a week - ever seen one that's obese?

Yeah, I suppose money has overtaken honour & self-pride in today's world's priorities! Sad, isn't it?
