A 29-stone New York woman says she was humiliated when she was told to go to a zoo for an x-ray.
Jennifer Walters is bed-ridden and cannot fit into a magnetic resonance imaging machine.
She told the New York Post that a doctor said she should go instead to the Bronx Zoo for an x-ray.
"It's humiliating. I was told if elephants and hippos need MRIs, they have the equipment at the Bronx Zoo. It was like I was an animal," she said.
New York politicians recently called for an end to what they termed medical discrimination against obese people.
The Bronx Zoo told the Post it gets about a dozen such calls a year but it doesn't have such facilities for its animals.

Response to the post:
The problem of obesity is getting really really bad, and I think the story highlights it. Sad thing is that this story does not sound funny, but it only indicates how serious the problem has gotten.
Slightly-off-topic:
This just reminded me of something.
Morgan Spurlock who directed "
Supersize Me" just published this book, "
Don't Eat This Book: Fast Food and the Supersizing of America".

I bet that sells well... didn't this guy become a millionnaire as a direct result of his movie? If so, do you think that was a good price to pay for what he had to do?

3rd most successful documentary film in history, so yeah, probably he's a millionaire now.

Sure, you can think that way. I wouldn't mind doing that, but I don't think eating KFC for a month would make as successful a film as Supersize Me.

Fahrenheit 911 is the most successful by far. 2nd most successful is Bowling for Columbine? Another Michael Moore's film.
